Sex Workers Outreach Project chapters do something around their local pride festival/march/parade/etc. Each Chapter chooses what they want to do. Here are some things we've done

Nationally we've been at San Francisco Pride since our inception. We've helped ran the gate, ran drink booths, and information booths.

The Cambodian Government under the influence of the US has passed a law

against sex worki. Since March, sex workers have been rounded up in raids,

arrested, detained, denied medical services, beaten and raped by police.

At least three sex workers have died in police custody. Others are being

denied life-saving medicines. THIS IS AN OUTRAGE!

Each day for the last few weeks the local news has been flashing

reports of more raids on sex workers in brothels in different areas in

Phnom Penh, and some in the provinces. However, raids on sex workers

don't only take place in Phnom Penh but a number of provinces such as

Banteay Meanchey, Siem Reap, Kampong Chhang . The news paints a bad

The Pink Scare: Of Ms. Palfrey and Sex Panic

New York, NY - The activists at Sex Workers Action New York (SWANK), Sex
Workers Outreach Project New York (SWOP-NYC), Prostitutes of New York
(PONY) and the nationally-based Desiree Alliance are saddened that Deborah
Jeane Palfrey, also known as the D.C. Madam, passed away on May 1st in an
apparent suicide. We - prostitutes, strippers, pro-dommes, porn stars, sex
experts, and allies - extend our sympathies to all of those hurt by this
most recent chapter of the "Pink Scare," in which oppressive legislation
and social stigma partner to generate hysteria around what, for us, can
prove to be simply a decent way to make a living.

The circumstances surrounding Ms. Palfrey's death suggest that Americans
reconsider the current state and federal policies that govern sex worki, as

About SWOP-USA:

Tomorrow, Saturday, December 1, is Worlds AIDS Day and the Sex Workers Project joins organizations and individuals worldwide to observe this important day. Below is the Sex Workers Project Press Release on the imperative role of sex workers as leaders in the fight against HIV/AIDS.

This year the Vermont Transgender Day of Rememberance recognized the lives lost to anti-sex worker violence alongside those lost to anti-transgender violence. Through a collaboration with the newly minted Vermont branch of SWOP, a sex worker rights activist was invited to speak on the issue of sex workers' human rights. On behalf of SWOP East, I eagerly accepted the offer to be the keynote speaker at the event.

In the past respect and dignity were used against sex workers and other "un-pure" women to kill or imprison them. In our struggle for human rights we choose to reclaim these words and give them renewed meaning.
