We Demand Action Now

While law enforcement in San Francisco and Oakland continue to crackdown on streetwalkers and private brothels, they are turning a blind eye to far more serious crimes -- sexual assault, rape, assault with a deadly weapon, and false imprisonment. Strippers are being sexually assaulted in private booths. Prosititutes are being held against their will, raped and stabbed. Robbery is routine. And by virtue of their occupation, sex workers are disregarded and discredited before even filing a complaint. To come forward is to incriminate themselves and to be further victimized by a system that cooerces them to remain silent. But to remain silent is to remain vulnerable to continued assaults and further violence. Assault and rape is always illegal but sex workers are often treated as if they were the perpetrators.

We demand action now.

  • We demand that the Oakland Police Department investigate the multiple allegations of serial rape of an identified individual.
  • We demand that sex workers be given immunity from self incrimination when reporting crimes against themselves or others.
  • We demand that SF stop harrassing exotic dancers and start enforcing labor laws breeched by club owners.

Investigate the multiple allegations of serial rape of an identified individual
Oakland Police Department has been given detailed accounts of an identified individual accused of robbery, unlawful imprisonment, rape, torture and assualt with a deadly weapon. Multiple accounts have been given and we urge you to contact the Oakland Police Department and demand action now.

Give sex workers immunity from self imcrimination when reporting crimes
Sex workers should not be made to make the choice of going to jail or reporting a crime. They should be able to fully participate with law enforcement in confronting the violent crimes perpetrated against them or others. We urge you to contact both the San Francisco and Oakland District Attorney Offices and demand action now.

Start enforcing labor laws breeched by strip club owners
While some club managers continue to seize tips, withhold wages, and charge dancers hundreds of dollars per shift, labor laws protecting exotic dancers go unenforced. We urge you to contact the San Francisco Labor Commission and the Mayor Elect, Gavin Newsom's campaign HQ and demand action now.
