COMMODITY THIS BABY! 100% of this book's proceeds go to the Sex Workers Outreach Project (SWOP-USA). Sex Working and the Bible is a liberation approach to reading the Bible with the sex outlaws of SWOP-NorCal in order to explore various readings of prostitutioni in the Bible and how they get translated into social policy. There is also a bit of sex worker history documented within this book. The social context in which Dr. Ipsen did her biblical interpretive work with sex workers was during the historic 2004 Berkeley Measure Q campaign towards the decriminalization of prostitution, a SWOP political initiative spearheaded by Robyn Few which has contributed to an upsurge in the sex worker rights movement in the 21st century.
This book was recently part of a presentation at the Society of Biblical Literature conference, and was categorized as easily the best session ever.
